Tips on caring for and training your dog

The old adage, "small but terrible" might have possibly invented particularly because of toy dog breeds. Each of these smaller breeds has an abundance of attitude for their small stature. Other than being gutsy by nature, toy dog breeds are commonly appreciated for their outward appearances, as well. This is exactly why grooming this breed of dog, especially long-haired ones, is so important. Dogs who have longer coats are more prone to getting matted fur. On its own, matting could start more major medical issues if not dealt with in a timely fashion. Thus, lest you have a toy dog or are considering adding a long-haired dog to your family, the following are some facts to keep in mind when it boils down to their grooming style.

#1. Find the smoothest, most fur-friendly brush you can get your hands on. The best place to buy one of these brushes is at your local pet parlor, but they can also be easily found at the store. It should be gentle enough to use on their skin often. A boar bristle brush would be great for most any long-haired dog. On the other hand, this is still contingent upon the hair type and length of your dog. Another brush needs to be used when you are intent upon grooming your dog after a bath. These kinds of after bath brushes are called pin brushes and slickers.

#2. If you plan on trimming your dog's coat in the house, concentrating on the hair between the pads of their paws is equally essential. The hair found in these spots are also in the habit of matting, and in more serious circumstances, it could even inhibit the dog's regular movements. It's imporant to clip parallel to the paws so that if it wiggles your friend won't get cut while you groom it.
